"Wonderland was inspired by being in a very controlling relationship and trying to portray that in a way that wasn't all doom and gloom" the American born artist explains.

Tabi Gervis is an American born British singer songwriter, creating her own modern pop take on the indie genre.

Gervis mixes dreamy psychedelic instrumentals with her honest lyrics to create her own quirky contrast in her music. She has used her individual sound to portray darker topics such as abuse in a much lighter atmospheric sound; while keeping the message behind the song just as powerful.

Gervis may only be a young 18 years of age but she's achieved so much in her career already. Landing herself a place on 'The Voice Kids UK' at an impressive age of 14 to writing and recording in Nashville and now releasing her own new twist on indie music, Gervis really has proved how much she is capable of already.

When asked about her latest release 'Wonderland' Gervis said "It was inspired by being in a very controlling relationship and trying to portray that in a way that wasn't all doom and gloom."

'Wonderland' has seen her produce the next best indie pop anthem: A catchy melodic chorus hook combined with the attitude in her lyrics creates an innovative and groovy vibe, that takes you to a whole new level of indie music.

"As I'm growing, especially through lockdown my style of music is changing. I'm seeing a lot more of my jazz and psych influences coming through." Gervis explained.

Unlike your average artist Gervis flows with isolationism, relying on zero inspiration from a childhood idol or even from a world famous pop artist singing about their notoriously public break up that no one really cares about. Instead it's the little things hiding in plain sight that get's her imagination moving. "I can appreciate other artists and I obviously have other artists that I love but I've never really listened to someone and been like 'I wanna be like them', I've always kind of appreciated what they did but still wanted to do my own things." Gervis said.

Being so young but yet so strong in her creation, Gervis is really proving that there really are no limits to being a female in the music industry. Her lyrics ooze attitude, questioning abusive treatment within a relationship but highlighting that anyone absurd enough to act in such a way must really be a spawn of a Wonderland.

According to an article written in 2019, Women's Aid and Cosmopolitan found that a third of teenage girls admitted to having been in an abusive relationship- not forgetting that 64% of the remaining two thirds said that they had experienced some form of abuse but they wasn't aware of it at the time.

These staggering figures really highlight how common domestic abuse is becoming, without those including male cases too.

t's extremely concerning to think how these numbers will have increased undoubtedly throughout the past year in lockdown with many victims being forced to stay at home amongst their abusive partners in awfully dangerous environments. However it's super promising to see a young female use her platform to discuss an important topic such as this one. Gervis is using her lyrics to spread awareness and show teenage girls that it's okay to question your partners behaviour if you feel that something isn't right; it's about time we put an end to the taboo!

It's safe to say that we've all experienced a roller coaster of emotions throughout lockdown and that is including Gervis. She opened up saying "I completely hit a brick wall and just lost all motivation whatsoever."

Having already talked about how she creates her own inspiration, Gervis added "Lockdown's kind of made me...I don't want to say fall in and out of love with it but the excitement of it has just kind of gone away. When you're just in your room every single day, doing it all the time, it becomes a lot. There's no real kind of inspiration anywhere, you're not doing anything, you're not seeing anyone."

Growing up in America and getting to work alongside working professionals may have given Gervis the chance to experience some of the best advice in the industry but it hasn't always been the easiest ride.

"I've been very lucky but it has been hard, I grew up over there but my parents and family are from the UK, so it's left me with this sense of not really knowing where to call home."

It seems as though the moving around from country to country may have left a younger Gervis feeling as though she was dealt quite a few cards growing up but what she didn't know was that her hard work and determination would lead her onto exciting new endeavours.

As the summer approaches, Gervis is preparing some new releases and even hinted at the idea of an EP. When asked what her fanbase can expect from her in 2021 it was very clear that she is itching to get back to sharing her music on a much more personal level.

"Hopefully we will be able to start doing gigs soon! I'm just going to getting the ball rolling and be consistent with my releases." She said.

Get ready to share the excitement and join Gervis on her journey down her rabbit hole of dreaminess...
